Workshop

Workshop A: Tuesday 29th August, 2018

7:00 am - 9:00 am Strategies to Simplify the Current Supply Chain and Procurement of Prefabricated Construction in Australia through Effective Stakeholder Communication

This workshop will aim to tackle the challenge of procurement of modular components in Australia. This workshop will explore the changes that must be made by developers and owners in order to progress the industry in Australia. These challenges of procurement include transportation of modules and lack of communication between stakeholders.

This workshop will cover:

  • How to prepare for the modularisation of your infrastructure project
  • Best practices for ECI and strategies to incorporate modular design and construction into the design phase
  • Addressing opportunities for growth in modular design through effective stakeholder engagement
  • Efficiency and accuracy through the use of global standards for modularisation
  • Strategies that can be used in the design phase to ensure the project is delivered on time and on budge

Workshop B: Wednesday 1st August, 2018

7:00 am - 9:00 am Investigating the Challenges and Opportunities of Modular Construction to Meet the Changing Needs and Expectations of Clients though Embracing New Technologies

This workshop will explore the potential of modular design and construction to meet the changing needs and expectations of clients. The main technology being explored in this workshop will be cross laminated timber which is a solution to meeting the increased demand for construction that is more sustainable than traditional methods.

This workshop will cover:

  • How are the needs and expectations of occupants changing?
  • Assessing the use of sustainable engineered building solutions such as CLT
  • Exploring the benefits of CLT to create high rise infrastructure of up to 20 storeys
  • Exploring the manufacturing process of CLT which is 75% lighter than concrete and easy to assemble
  • Case studies taken from successful applications of CLT
